D J Alsop died February 6 1907 in Lafayette Oregon from internal injuries at age 49 years 2 months and 28 days. Born November 14 1857 near Gilbertstown Kansas he lived in Kansas then Trego County before settling in Lafayette. He leaves a wife six daughters two sons one brother and two sisters. The McMinnville Reporter notes his kindness and honesty and extends condolences to the family. The notice also mentions Dr Wickiter offering optical tests and services in town.

Professor Ten Eyck of the agricultural college attended the Missouri state agricultural meeting and corn show in Columbia January 8 10. He spoke for the Corn Breeders association and judged corn with C P Heartley of the USDA, noting a larger show than Kansas at Manhattan January 1 2. He also attended the Nebraska Corn Improvers meeting at Lincoln January 17 18 and reported a successful Nebraska show. Nebraska White Prize corn sold for 100. Kansas boasted the highest scoring corn with multiple entries. The Hildreth yellow class winner scored 954 points, higher than Nebraska 904 and Missouri 91% Kansas had five samples at 914 or more. Missouri and Nebraska judges were M F Miller and Montgomery. An inserted anecdote about a St. Joe restaurant catfish versus country sausage and a testimonial for Dr Thomas Electric Oil appears at the end.
