Farmers Institute Hosts Garden Prize Contest for Youths
At the Trego county Farmers Institute meeting held in Mr Harlans office on Saturday February 15 Charles Folkers was named permanent secretary after Mr Greenwood moved away. A prize trip to Manhattan is offered to the boy and girl with the highest scoring garden grown under strict rules. Contest open to under 18, garden under 100 square feet, at least five vegetables including potatoes beets beans peas cucumbers tomatoes cabbage peanuts onions radishes. No more than half the garden may be potatoes. Participants register with Folkers and receive a score card. Judging values include product value score completeness utility and irrigation adjustments factored. Peanut seed provided by Ogallah Forestry station.
