Miss Blackburn Wins Automobile Prize in Gazette Contest

Miss Ida Blackburn assisted by Charles Clayton won the automobile offered in the Gazette contest with 1,108,820 votes. John Dix of DeKalb followed with 879,075 votes. Editor W. H. Gilbert of Fillmore had 440,300 votes, earning the second Missouri prize. The Savannah candidate’s supporters praised her and Savannah for the top vote total, the largest ever in a Gazette contest. The winner is remembered as a former assistant postmistress during boom days and receives World readers’ congratulations.
