A Kansas viewpoint argues that western Kansas has uneven rainfall and small rural populations but great agricultural potential. It calls for new state experiment stations, irrigation testing, and public funding to develop crops, water resources, and demonstration farms to boost productivity and attract settlers.

Kansas sorghum acreage grew to over one and a half million acres by 1912 with yields surpassing corn in western regions and often in eastern areas. A bulletin by Prof. A M Lehdigh is circulated to farmers and teachers ahead of a February 15 meeting where 400 Farmers Institutes will discuss sorghums including types, soil needs, seed bed prep, planting and cultivation methods, seed selection, and feed versus silage comparisons.
