A passenger freight collision was narrowly avoided Monday evening when the 40 mile an hour 103 engine halted after the engineer detected an open switch. He applied air brakes reversed the engine and stopped shortly after mining on the switch. Section men claimed the switch was closed earlier and a freight crew passing later said the switch was not used.
Lovely winter weather described with mumps struggles of John Herbert. Wheat praised for winter readiness. Local activity includes hay hauling by Mr. Karst, window removal by Mr. Wheeler, John Colberg visiting Ellis near Trego, and a stable built by Mr. Gugier at the north schoolhouse district 11. Rev. Clark delivered sermons in Ellis G A R hall M E church and YMCA hall with overflow attendance. Tide-work horses advertised by EB Webb of Wa Keeney Kanss.
