Bishop H. M. Thompson Dies After Throat Cancer
Bishop Hugh Miller Thompson, born 1830 in Londonderry Ireland, died last week in Jackson Mississippi from throat cancer. He came to America with his parents as a youth and was ordained at twenty two. He served in New York and Chicago before being appointed bishop of the Mississippi Episcopal Diocese in 1856. Southern bishops attended the funeral, conducted by Bishop Gabor of Tennessee. The remains were interred beneath the chancel of St Columbia chapel near the bishop’s home.
