Community thanks Trego County Fair for facilities

Appreciation note thanks the Trego County Fair Association for use of buildings and grounds and prays blessings on them for kindness to workers in the Kingdom of God. Trego County High School begins its fourteenth year on September 2 1918 with a full secondary program. Principal J B R Niesley and instructors Fern V Weaver Alice Bright Clara E McClelland Yulia E Nelligan Amy Spieier Theron Johnson bring accredited standards from state and North Central Association. Admissions require varying high school credits, rooms listed, and enrollments on opening day with guidance from the principal. Also notes stray steer in Galloway pasture and local draft quota reporters leaving for Camp Funston.

Obituary of Albert W Purinton of Banner Kansas

Albert W. Purinton born June 24 1845 in Lincoln Vermont died suddenly August 6 1918 in Banner Kansas aged 75 years 1 month 13 days. He married Melissa E Durfy April 5 1865 in New Haven Vermont and they had seven children four sons and three daughters Leonard W Deila Tuttle Florence Lee and Frank L survive with one brother and three sisters in the east. He served as Trego county commissioner and joined the M E church at eighteen, leaving a lasting legacy of public service and faith. His graveyard monument in Banner memorializes his life and work. Card of thanks from Mrs A W Purinton and family expresses appreciation for help during bereavement.

Soldier Charles N Holcomb writes from Camp Funston Kansas on July 4 1918 about visitors day meals and dancing at the Nebraska and Kansas buildings. He notes good food and service two hundred visitors fed and his inoculations and health update plus a request to print the letter in the World and mentions War Savings Stamps and local agricultural drought impacts in Collyer Advance.

Jacob M. Loyd died Sunday afternoon August 11 after months of Brights disease at his home. Born April 9 1866 in Monterey Iowa he moved from Osborne to Trego County in 1895 where he lived until death. Funeral Monday at three at Presbyterian church conducted by Rev Baker with Masons assisting. burial at Wa-Keeney cemetery. He leaves brother Cal and sister Ida in this city and other relatives.
