The Wenatchee bond question for a municipal building failed by four votes with 1238 ballots cast. Indebtedness yes 65. no 50. Bonds yes 65. no 47. Eight regular ballots were not counted. Also notes a murder inquiry in the Jap case with knife deaths. suspect M Fuly umata still at large.
The Wenatchee Canal Company finished a large cross canyon pipe across Nahahum Canyon near Cashmere. The 5.5 foot diameter, 600 foot long wooden stave pipe with iron bands replaces earlier flume and ditch methods, allowing future canal expansion and reducing leakage. L. P. Horton led the rapid two month construction effort, moving crew to abutments of the Columbia River bridge after completion.
Wenatchee Hardware Co is sold for up to 75000 dollars. Wells and Morris own the current building and warehouse lease extending to November 1. The buyer, Perry Polson Implement Co of Seattle, holds a large stock position. A. F. Anderson, F. D. Case, and M. E. Fisher are stockholders.
The Cannery advertises for additional female workers, promising steady work. Prisoner W. L. Davis, sentenced to twenty years in the state penitentiary at Walla Walla, was escorted to the train by guard E. B. Easterbrook amid a farewell scene with his wife, sister, and young daughter present.
In the office a display of grapes from J H Lebeck's Squil lechuck mouth shows very large, glossy bunches. The largest weighed two pennes and a half, with the fruit praised for quality and Wenatchee's reputation in fruit growing.
The post office at Wenatchee Washington lists a set of names as uncalled for mail for the week ending September 3 1907 including Mrs Maude Horren Miss Mary Miller Mrs Peter Nelson Mrs Lena Roads Mr Ben Shattuck and others with several Mr and Mrs prefixes noted.
An armed fugitive named Fuiyumato is pursued by two sheriffs from Wenatchee and Leavenworth after stabbing a man named Tony at Seattle Bar. Sighted near the Cascade tunnel mouth, the escapee travels with a small bundle, reportedly armed, as officials monitor the dangerous pursuit.
State Deputy Blair hails Wenatchee support as he announces plans to form a large charter membership for the Royal Highlanders in Wenatchee. He urges locals to submit applications to Prof. Riste as the order prepares for a big opening night.
Postmaster announces that individuals named J. R. Wallace Uhl James Whittingham Edythe Whittingham M Whittingham and Mrs Major have filed claims and are required to respond by the advertised deadline. The notice calls for the holders to appear as listed.
John Gerrick of Gerrick & Gerrick confirms the Columbia river bridge contract remains active in Seattle. He reports nine workers now, with plans to reach thirty-five to forty soon and to commence the structure’s completion within nine days. Gerrick & Gerrick also handle iron work for eight Seattle buildings. L. P. Horton and crew finished the Nahahuin canyon line at Cashmere and will start abutment work on the bridge immediately.
