Washington Woman Awarded Carnegie Medal for Bravery
Mrs. Marie V. B. Langdon of Talma Chelan county received the Carnegie Medal for saving the Jacques family during a January blaze on the snowy north banks of Lake Wenatchee. She aided a frail mother and her children despite 34 degrees below zero and three to four feet of snow, breaking crust and exposing herself to freezing conditions. The Jacobs family home burned, leaving the mother to rescue the sleeping children while Langdon trudged through perilous conditions toward safety.
