The story follows Jack Overdorf returning to find Porter in Spokane ready to flee. Porter learns of the danger and escapes with his wife packing to leave town.
On Thursday night May 16 the Wenatchee Military Band will entertain friends in the theater building with a concert promenade and dance. Dance music will mix with concert pieces and receipts will go toward new uniforms. Admission is fifty cents. The open air concerts are expected to begin soon.
Inavale home of Sheriff Webb a cheerful gathering yesterday included Mr. and Mrs. John Godfrey and daughter Surely. Mr. and Mrs. Elias Webb and daughters Ruby and Blanch. Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Lemaster. Mr. Sam Hensel deputy county auditor of Douglas. Dwite McAter and Misses Pearl Alta Scheely and Carrie Stewart. Guests wished the hostess happiness. Also note: Ladies' Aid of M. E. church meets Mrs. Ben Anderson May 15 at 2 30 p.m. Farmers system takes over long distance business. Pacific States telephones machines removed and to be shipped to San Francisco.
Invitations announce a secret surprise party to be given this week in Wenatchee. The event aims to keep the guest in blissful ignorance with careful Hawkshaw secrecy.
Rev. T. A. Hilton of St. Luke's Episcopal church departed last night for Spokane to attend a diocese convention. He will be away until Saturday and plans to return in time to resume the pulpit duties at St. Luke's.
The Southside country shows rapid progress as farmers’ companies own four steam rigs with cook houses and four horse-power rigs. In less than a decade a single 28-inch thresher once handled all grain. now several machines may be needed to handle this year’s crop as developments keep pace with the great northwest.
J. E. Graves and James H. Mc Gohan organize a real estate partnership with offices on the second floor of the Columbia Valley Bank building. McGohans move from Entiat where he was head of the high school, to Wenatchee to establish residence and business locally.
The school board meeting with several selections lists many teachers elected to return or re elect for next year. Present salaries rise to a 12 month basis and aim to attract stronger service and full attention from staff.
The Beard advocates extra hours beyond the school day as essential for teachers to lead moral sentiment and keep up with current events. They push study clubs for certification, reading papers, and social recreation to avoid criticism. Next year will emphasize writing, music, literary societies, and oratory with strong attendance expected.
C. T. Berg of this city has purchased the Winchester hotel and plans to move there soon. The hotel building has been remodeled into first class condition. Mr. J. S. Stevens, Berg’s brother in law, has gone to Winchester to oversee the new hostelry. Berg also owns farm land two miles south of Winchester to cultivate.
William Little of Little & Wetsel has rested at Soap Lake for a week recovering from rheumatism and is expected home today. He is said to be somewhat improved as he leaves the health resort.
C E Gatch national bank examiner visited Wenatchee Saturday and audited the First National Bank. He praised the bank’s accounts and strong management. W R Leonardy, longtime acquaintance, now with the Reclamation Service surveying force, called and had played ball with Riverside nine earlier this week.
A steam ship under construction in Detroit caught fire and was destroyed except for its steel hull. The loss is estimated at $600,000. Separately Margaret Brown bought the E. E. Hooper property in the Fairview addition via J. S. Mooney & Co.
Professor A L Melander of Washington State College arrives in town to speak at the Commercial club about codlin moth control. He and Professor Thatcher will discuss spray formulas and compare spray machines, with soil sample findings and demonstrations to follow at the Evergreen Ranch west of Wenatchee. Whitman club president urges large attendance.
A Preliminary Daily World meeting formed committees to plan Decoration Day events. A. J. Adams will deliver the Menorist sermon at the Christian church. Youth and ladies committees include Fred Reeves and Grace Parker among others. G A R delegates J B Palmer M O Merrill and A P Clayton named. All groups urged to confer at Panty World office Wednesday at 7 30.
