Bridge Bill Advances in Senate and Canal Work Presses On

The Olympia telegram signals strong prospects for the bridge bill with little Senate opposition. The Okanogan canal project proceeds actively with J. A. Barker directing 31 workers at a rocky point where blasting through solid rock is the costliest portion. At Rosenfelt camp H. A. Wilder leads 30 men as snow clears and more equipment arrives to accelerate dirt removal.

Contractor Gerrick Here at City Bridge Site

John Gerrick of Gerrick and Gerrick Seattle visits the bridge project to supervise site work with consulting engineer R J English. Donkey engines shipped from St Paul and 18 train cars of bridge steel have arrived. 35 cars remain. A large steam derrick and air compressor are in use as the cantilever carrier begins erection.

Mr Gerrick proposed painting the new bridge red to match Wenatchee's famous nickname "the Big Red Apple." Crowds gathered at the site yesterday as construction moved ahead.

East We natchee land buyers have been crossing the Columbia on the ferry to view purchases and assess the land proposition on the east side. Ezra Miller’s new house nearly finished and set for occupancy within a week at about $800. Ned Rozelle proves up on homestead after five years, and Frank Daniels will receive a government deed today. An entertainment at Liberty schoolhouse Saturday raised funds for the organ. $10 remains owed.

Harrington Council Approves Fire Engine Purchase

Harrington March 7 At a city council meeting the mayor named standing committees for health fire protection ordinances finance streets and public improvements and appointed G W Kinney as police judge. The fire committee reported a 1000 pound Blymen bell and a 60 gallon single action chemical engine were ordered purchased.

Name Changes for Pogue Flat Town Now Okanogan

The town on Pogue Flat has undergone two name changes. It began as Alma to avoid confusion with Elma, then became Pogue about a year ago, and at a recent meeting residents voted to adopt the name Okanogan.

Dickson Named Third Member of Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition Board

Governor Mead nominates George E. Dickson of Ellensburg as the third member of the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific exposition commission. Dickson, born October 27, 1861 in Richmond Canada, studied at St Francis College and moved to Ellensburg to run a general merchandise business before shifting to financing and investments in Central Washington.

Ellensburg Politician with Long Legislative Record

A longtime Republican figure in Kittitas County who organized the party here and served on the county contact committee for six years and the state executive committee for many years. He owned property near and in Ellensburg and showed strong interest in a local Ellensburg bank. He served in the House of Representatives from Kittitas County in the Eighth Ninth and Tenth Legislatures.
