F M Guion Seattle school board member visits Wenatchee en route to Lake Chelan vacation. He discusses Seattle market woes and the push for a public market to aid Wenatchee valley growers and ease distribution through direct grower sales.
Milton Horn, a Wenatchee youth seeking the simple life, was found this morning camped in a tent west of the city. Deputy Simmons searched overnight but located him at dawn. He appeared to have endured frugal conditions, using a tin cup and tin cane for cooking. He faced disobedience charges but agreed to return home and was discharged accordingly.
Local capitalists form Chelan Electric with 500000 dollars in capital stock to build an electric railway from Wenatchee along the Columbia river to Lake Chelan and north to the Okanogan river reaching the state end. J T McChesney is president E C Mony secretary H P Scott trustees include J A Coleman F H Brownell. Chelan Leader weighs this as possibly part of Great Northern strategy in the Columbia Okanogan valleys.
The Wenatchee Commercial Club seeks fine fruit for a local exhibit with berries peaches and other varieties to showcase the region. Growers with extra nice fruit are urged to contribute for a creditable display. Large Spokane peaches attract attention. A meeting of Wenatchee young men for a lecture course is set at World Advance office Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
Internationally known violinist Carl F. Steckelburg will appear at the Wenatchee Theater in Wenatchee this Saturday. He leads the Nebraska University Conservatory of Music at Lincoln and will be joined by other noted musicians for the event.
At the home of O C Haines on Fifth street last night Miss Edna Norfolk and Mr Edwin Preece united in marriage. The ceremony was led by Rev T A Hilton with a small group of relatives and friends present. The couple will live in Wenatchee and are to receive visitors after August tenth.
The Lyceumite notes William Jennings Bryan spoke at Ottawa Kansas as part of the Chautauqua circuit about ten years after his first appearance. Rain fell heavily during his lecture, mirroring a prior 1907 visit. He joked about responsibility for rain and critiqued Roosevelt and the Democratic Party's reforms.
R. G. Patton head of the U S branch of a London company arrives in the city. He is accompanied by G W Jones county inspector and Texas cattleman Dr W R Clifton. J A Geraldy guides the party over the valley this morning.
A Olympia report notes Governor Mead argues parole eligibility under the indeterminate sentence law hinges on minimum terms and good behavior. If upheld, a broad release wave could follow as the prison board handles pardons and commutations, with life-term assaults also affected. The vice governor assigns pardons to the board and seeks legal guidance on crimes and minimums under the new law.
At a Wenatchee school board meeting Riste was elected principal of Wenatchee High School to succeed C. H. Armstrong who resigned. Riste served as Wenatchee superintendent for three years and resigned ill health a year ago. His county superintendent term ends in August with E. C. Bowersox succeeding him. Brown will continue as city schools superintendent.
Friends gathered at the Thompson home on C street to honor their 30th anniversary. About thirty guests attended a small evening party with refreshments while relatives sent a decorative oak center table as a gift. Attendees included Grandma Groves and numerous couples such as J B Palmer Marden J F Chase W S Milner W A Grant Milo Camp and others.
