Japanese Intruders Map Coastline Near Santa Monica
A party of seven Japanese with a small cannon has been near Santa Monica bay for several days making maps of cliffs and testing a pivot gun fired from a cliff. Settlers reported watching them, and the proximity to American fleet positions at Point Douma increased alarm. A San ta Monica capitalist, Jack A. Henry, provided the first authenticated account from the Malibu ranch.
