Foster Rapids Opened to Navigation After Rock Removal
The state commission cleared Foster Creek rapids four miles from Bridgeport by blasting the big rock and removing obstructions to allow large boats to navigate the upper river. Captain Fred McDermott reports the first rock destroyed and the second to be blasted soon. The Yakima will push further upriver to finish the work, aiding farmers and lumbermen along the Columbia. The commission plans to spend remaining funds on upper river clearance, improving year round safety during high water.
