We natchee city council convenes in regular session this evening to hear protests from property owners along the street where new walks were ordered. The notice warns that coasting on sidewalks is forbidden and violators will be arrested.
E Gauntt has sold his 8 acre orchard at Sunnyslope to J C Gockley of Newburg Oregon for 5000 dollars. Gockley returns today to Oregon to bring his family to live here. Gauntt continues in general contracting and carpentering in Wenatchee.
The Daily World is collecting votes from residents of Suburban Home Second Suburban Home Garden Home and Smith Park Addition to decide on extending Wenatchee city limits. Thirty five ballots have been received. others are urged to vote and results will be announced in the paper in a few days.
Mr. L L Harvey, former owner of the Pateros Mercantile Co, has sold the Pateros store to J M Holt, a former Methlon resident. Harvey plans southern California travel before deciding his future location, with possible ventures back in the area. Kellogg serves as editor. Pacific Wave issued by the University of Washington is now in circulation. Lucien Kellogg, formerly of the city, is News editor.
D Gensinger, the East Wenatchee land man, has moved his office from upstairs in the Columbia Valley Bank building to rooms west of the Red Apple Real Estate Company in the basement.
Co. H. Chapman of the Red Apple Real Estate Company returns from Mountain Home country Idaho after a several day visit. Mrs. Holderby Very Sr. Mrs. T. S. Holderby of Chelan is very low of heart trouble with fears for her recovery.
Mr Brown the Siloam Sanitarium cook returns from Spokane. Soap Lake visitors include Mr Squires of Soap Lake Salts and Oil Co and Mr Stetson owner of the Great Northern Hotel Seattle. The Davis family sing at the school house. Blanche Snack now at Wenatchee for winter. Peterson of Seattle opens barber shop in former Collins building. Meredith visits Seattle. Spider Web social well attended. Local dances in Ephrata enjoyed by Soap Lake youths. Mrs Leadbetter heads to Seattle for winter. World ads noted as good for wallets.
A dramatic clash of Marconi and United Wireless systems occurred in the Daily World office. Sparks flew as positive and negative electricity met, causing a warm atmosphere and forcing the current off eventually. United Wireless has sold stock locally. Marconi will demo in Wenatchee later, with a broader assessment promised in a future issue.
C Warrens, an engineer from the Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company, arrived from London to assist E N Mayer during this week's demonstrations in Wenatchee. The journey took five days from England to the continent and four days across the Atlantic.
Committees finalize program for a large all day convention on Thursday. President J F Littooy and Secretary D N Gellatly coordinate arrangements. Pullmen men who conducted Wenatchee Valley experiments last summer will present on the program.
At a recent meeting of the Horticultural association of Okanogan county officers were elected for the coming year with W. E. Kirkpatrick as president and Harry J. Kerr as vice president. A move to organize a shipping association among local fruit growers was approved, signaling new cooperative plans. In Washington, D. C., officials note the Cascades hold the United States’ heaviest timber stand in terms of density and quality, surpassing other regions for timber value.
The region's lush yet impenetrable conifer forests, dominated by Douglas or red firs averaging 250 feet tall and four to six feet in diameter, cover most reserves. Timber lands outside the mountains lie largely with large companies or speculators, leaving little value timber under the timber and stone act.
A crew of Northern Pacific workers entering the smoke filled Stampede tunnel about 80 miles east of Seattle were struck by an east bound freight. Three men died A R Liranza C F Tammanara and Nuncio Speccia. Injured were P S Spedale and B P Cammarala. An inquest will be held in Ellensburg after the derailment and deaths.
Colfax dispatch reports a Coulee City bandit arrested on a Northern Pacific train at Ritzville by Sheriff Ed Gilson. The bandit escaped jail in Ritzville while a doctor dressed wounds from the explosion at Coulee City. A chase by six men followed toward Spokane.
George B. Pratt formerly of Chiwaukum and head of the state fish hatchery is now a police judge in Okanogan. His first case involved Fritz Penn and Fred Shull in a public scuffle. After a private counseling, he handed down suspended 35 fines plus costs. He urged peace and suggested settling disputes fairly away from the city.
In a Senate speech Tillman defended President Roosevelt as a patriot while noting indiscretions and statements he would have preferred taken out of print. He disputed claims of satisfaction in causing the current financial paralysis. In Lincoln Tobey organized a Hughes club with Burkett as vice presidential hopeful as Taft and Hughes factions contest delegates at the next primary.
