Davis Receives Twenty Year Sentence for Murder

In a dramatic Superior Court proceeding Judge Steiner sentenced W. L. Davis to twenty years at hard labor in the state penitentiary for the murder of John McGee. The court explained lack of provocation and insufficient insanity evidence, noting the jury would likely have returned murder in the second degree or higher if the trial continued. Davis and his wife Mrs. Davis showed visible emotion as the verdict was read and he was led to the county jail.
