City attorney announces preparation of papers in a condemnation action against Wenatchee avenue properties. About 300 defendants named including owners lessees and mortgagees. Papers will be served by sheriff. many owners favor the project and will waive damages to speed the work.
Word spread of a brutal beating at the Lemaster home prompting neighbors to rush to help. They halted work and rode to the scene only to find the Lemaster family and visitors peacefully eating lunch, the supposed tragedy proven false.
Witnesses recall a dinner gathering where a guest, not the wife, became the subject of comic mishap in a lively, light hearted moment. Attendees describe the scene as one of the most humorous they have witnessed, with much laughter and amusement.
A large gathering attended the home of Estella and Mina Allenbaugh nine miles south of Wenatchee to welcome the new residents. The event followed Mr. Allenbaughs purchase of the ranch and included numerous neighbors and family members in attendance.
Miss Ethel Nickells of Cashmere is appointed deputy by County Clerk J. L. Campbell for the coming term of the superior court.
Jacob Raue of the Town of Quincy in Douglas County extols September as fruitful due to many stork visits. County Clerk J. L. Campbell notes Raue’s belief as a local anecdote from the region.
Raue has nine children born in September, each exactly one year apart, a feat County Clerk Campbell says is unique in his long experience with vital statistics in the county and country.
A mare valued at about 800 pounds and four years old is believed stolen from Rev. Amos Peters Sunnystope pasture last Saturday. J. B. Bixler notified Deputy Sheriff Simmons and the thief, if found, will be pursued. The horse stood about fourteen hands high.
Tomorrow at Walburg place a Yoemen picnic opens on Sunday school grounds by the Wenatchee river bridge. The Yoemen lodge hosts a big gathering with free lemonade made from river water. All are invited to attend regardless of membership and hear the Coast manager speak.
Growers and business men met at the Commercial club to form an association planning immediate advertising to Eastern buyers. A four member committee was chosen to solicit signatures and the group aims to have contracts signed and returned.
Chelan County will stage a large county exhibit at fairs this fall with cooperation from Cashmere and Wenatchee Commercial clubs. Dave Gellatly and L G Olds led organizers, promising prizes for best fruit boxes to entice growers to showcase top produce. County funds total about 500 dollars for the exhibit as clubs anticipate spending around 1000 dollars on collection and care, with shows planned in Everett, North Yakima, and Spokane. Gellatly notes abundant fruit prospects including Spitzenburg and Wine Sap apples and a strong Bartlett pear season ahead.
