The Macquarie Poultry Club will stage its second annual show at Wellington Showground pavilion on June 26 and 27. Entries close June 16, with judge Mr W McGilvray of Goulburn. President Mr E Willock and secretary Mr J B Kelly expect strong support. The schedule lists 74 classes with 76 first prizes and additional cup prizes and champion ribbons. Unsettled weather persisted in Wellington and surrounds after heavy rain on Monday. Weekly rainfall reached 116 points by 9 am, aiding germinating crops and pasture growth. Mild temperatures with periods of warm sunshine marked the week, and the year’s total rainfall stood at 13.38 inches.

J C Knight, former Wellington Bandmaster, marks nine years leading the Cowra District Band this week. Under his direction the band has visited surrounding towns, entered State contests, placed third in the Australian C Grade Band Championships in Sydney, and won first prize for best conducted band in the same event.
The British steamer Wansford, carrying Indian coal, races through the Great Australian Bight toward Port Adelaide after a fire broke out in hold No 2. The crew reports the seat of the fire has not yet been located and expects to dock around 3 pm today.
The council discussed forming a reactivated town band with schoolchildren in a new arrangement. Mr Mulhall was asked to state conditions and provide references of ability for bandmaster, with Mayor to review his reply and arrange appointment.
