Wellington Race Club Faces Tax Claim Over Charity Meetings

The Wellington Race Club fought a tax claim totaling 4018/17/72 on funds raised for charity through meetings for the Wellington Show and Sports Ground Trust and related bodies. Solicitor B McCormack argued donations to prize money reduced liability, while the club questioned Departmental views on two day events treated as separate entertainments and urged recovery of about 1700 in overpayments. Mr. Wilkins lamented government aid and pledged to defend bona fides as members resolved to pursue the action.
