Sydney shareholders at the annual meeting of Coldsbrough Mort Ltd heard H N Neall deprecate Government borrowing. He warned a hill was needed or the country would face renewed difficulties and heavy taxation amid a recent loan of about £100,000,000.
In Melbourne, bookmakers Francis O'Connor and jockey Aubrey Parkin were driving back from Newmarket when a car cut in front, forcing a stop. A gunman fired at the vehicle after demanding O'Connor's identity, then fled. A threatening call later warned O'Connor he had been lucky and may not be next time.
