Thirteen records smashed at AY high school sports

Barton-McLeod House retained the athletic shield as senior and junior divisions produced multiple records. Clif Pearson led Barton-McLeod in the senior race while junior girl Bill Job of Norman-Taylor shattered six marks, including broad jump. Stan Pilley set several high school divisions records, and Barton-McLeod’s team swept events, aided by strong performances from Shirley Dixon and Barbara Fahey in girls divisions.

Magpie Rifle Club Shoot Awards and Cup Match Planned

Saturday afternoon shoot from the 900 yard mound saw Reg Dutton post 68 with a single stage possible to win the weekly spoon and cock o walk. Jack Charlton also scored 68 with a stage possible. A Cup Shoot against Mudgee is arranged at Mudgee range on Sunday 20th August.

Home for the Aged Appeal Launched in Wellington

Diocesan director Rev J Momiahon and Bishop Norton launched the Home for the Aged appeal in Wellington at St Patrick's Church. Fr McMahon said local donors pledged £100 each with three takers, while six months of canvasses yield sizable sums from Rockley Carcoar Blayney Bathurst Cowra and Canon windrs. The War Memorial Home will serve men and women of all denominations and donations are tax free.

Brookfield Clearing Sale Sets Record Prices for District Sheep

Auction of the Brookfield flock totaling 2 600 sheep drew buyers from Armidale Curtewis Cunowindra Orange Gulgong and other centres Wellinto district grainers attended. High prices were realized for stock and farm plants with lines of Merino ewes and mixed sexes selling from 5 shillings to several pounds per head. The sale also included cattle horses and harness gear with strong demand and top prices reported for ponies and saddles.
