Jail Disturbance Blamed on Pills
Pills of an undetermined controlled substance slipped to county jail prisoners blamed for a disturbance on Monday September 20. During the event two prisoners attempted hanging. one man freed himself, the other was cut down. Identified as Leland Wilkinson held for Memphis and Randy Peace held for Wheeler County. Peace had escaped earlier and was recaptured at Clarendon.

Voter Registration Deadline In October Reminder
Friday October 1 is the voter registration deadline for the general election. Frances Williams tax assessor collector notes most voters are registered but a few are not and urges registration before 5 00 p m. Absentee voting starts October 13 and runs to four days before the election. The general election is November 2.

Mrs Ed Brown 77 longtime county ranching family dies in Pampa
Mrs Ed Brown aged 77 died Friday at Highland General Hospital Pampa after a long illness. A retired teacher she spent over 30 years teaching in Collingsworth Wheeler and surrounding counties and often taught with her husband. Born November 7 1898 in Aberdeen she studied at Texas Woman's University and did graduate work at Arkansas and West Texas State University. She was active in Pen Women Club Glen Davies Memorial Methodist Church Abra Home Demonstration Club and rural women’s initiatives.
