Wellington ISD will host a Teacher Parent Talk Day on Wednesday October 2 from 4 7 PM. Teachers from elementary junior high and high school will hold one on one conferences to review the first six weeks progress with parents. Appointments are not needed and ten minute conferences will be requested to serve all families.
The Collingsworth County self-help group for people with multiple sclerosis and their supporters will gather at noon on Wednesday September 25 at First Baptist Church Wellington 1106 15th Street. First Christian Church will sponsor the Sth quarter after the Wellington versus Hollis football game Friday night at the Wellington Activity Center. All high school students are invited to attend for activities and snacks.
On September 16 Judge David McCoy sentenced 71 year old Anselmo Sanchez to seven years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice with a $500 fine for the second degree felony of sexual assault. The offense occurred July 1, 1990. Sanchez will serve 90 days in TDCJ with the remainder on probation, per a plea deal arranged by District Attorney Stuart Messer and attorney Richard Bird. Next docket call is November 4.
The Wellington Wheels For Life Bike-A-Thon will be held Saturday September 28 2002. The event supports St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and ALSAC funding for pediatric cancer research and treatment. Local organizer Cindy Weatherly can be contacted for details.
Hollis Harmon County sponsors the 10th annual Cotton Pickin Run 2002 on Sunday September 29. A 5K and a one mile fun run walk are offered. Contact Hollis Chamber of Commerce at 80 688 2419 for details.
Memphis marks its 112th anniversary in Hall County with events from Sept. 19 to 21. A hamburger luncheon will be held at noon Sept. 19 in Turkey and another at noon Sept. 20 on the Memphis downtown square. The eighth annual cookoff will be held Saturday September 28 2002 at Saints Roost Museum grounds in Clarendon. Gates open 7 30 a m with breakfast and lunch by the Chamber of Commerce. Fourteen wagons compete for top prizes. trade booths include Kenneth Wyatt Galleries Jack Craft Rae's Candles Courtney Shaller and other Western and Native American exhibitors.
