The Summerwood teams excelled at the district meet on Oct 21 with Matt Wynn winning junior high, Amanda Gaither earning a two time regional bid, and Dustin Ward securing a three time regional berth. The regional race is set for Nov 2 at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.
Keath Popwell is honored as Samnorwood Elementary citizen of the week. The student helps classmates read, shows care and responsibility, aspires to be a firefighter, and enjoys football, recess slides, and learning centers.
Summerwood drops a 6 35 contest to Follett as eight fumbles derail the Eagles offense. Clayton Oldham and Landon Allen lead ground gains while Jeff Hammond and Luke Lindsey contribute, but turnovers and penalties stall multiple drives as Follett pulls away late in the game. The Eagles prepare for a trip to Ft Elliott amid season uncertainty.
SJH overcame turnovers to outscore Hedley 12-0 as Laramie Allen scored both touchdowns. Blocking by Matt Wynn Taylor Batenhorst Matt Tarver Stryker Pena and Tucker Conner fueled the offense. Tarver and Codi Myers anchored the defense. Several players contributed to a near flawless season as Allen Batenhorst and Wynn prepare to move up to high school.
The USDA Risk Management Agency will host a 6 p.m. session on Wednesday October 30 at the Ambassador Hotel in Amarillo to explore risk management for biomass crops. Researchers seek input from producers processors associations university groups government personnel and insurance professionals on modifying crop insurance or creating new programs.
A November 7, 2002 seminar sponsored by Armstrong Briscoe Collingsworth and Donley County will be held at the Claude Activity Center. The evening begins at 6 p.m. with a steak dinner RSVP by November 6. Guest speaker is Rachel McInnis of the Texas Wheat Producers Board.

4-H offers ceramic sessions in December for Clover Kids and juniors at the courthouse workroom from 4 to 5 pm. Each $5 project hosts a show on the session’s last day with placings and awards. Sessions cap at six. more may be added. Contact Saunna Blacksher at the County Extension Office. Deadline to sign up is November 25, 2002.
