Samnorwood Eagle fans are invited to a high school athletic banquet at 8 p.m. on Thursday May 15. The dinner features brisket potatoes salad bread and dessert for 7 dollars per person. Tickets available at the door.

The Dozier Cemetery Association plans a business meeting on Memorial Day Monday May 26 at 10 AM at the cemetery. An election of officers for the coming year will be held. Contributions to the Dozier Cemetery Fund should be mailed to Ann Coleman Rt. 4 Box 39 Shamrock TX 79079.
A rabies clinic will be held Saturday May 17 1997 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Wellington Vet Hospital east on the Dodson highway. Directed by Dr. Mark Fires the vaccination costs eight dollars plus tag. Loose dogs and cats without collars will be picked up and destroyed.
Texas Comptroller John Sharp reports May sales tax rebates totaling 216.5 million to 1,086 cities and 117 counties. May rebates to cities rose 9.9 percent year over year to 199.3 million. counties received 17.1 million, up 11.1 percent. Wellington, Childress, Hall County totals shown with year to date changes.
The Collingsworth County grand jury met Monday May 12 and issued eight indictments. Terry Lynn Lindsey 22 faced burglary of a building offense April 15 1997 and forgery offenses April 25 1997 both state jail felonies. Mary Helen Granados 18 faced forgery March 27 1997 and two burglaries habitation April 2 and April 28 1997 two were second degree felonies. Cheryl Annette Anderson indicted for aggravated robbery April 17 1997 a 25 to 99 year life sentence. Cris Glen West 76 indicted for burglary of a building offense May 10 1997. He remains in custody.
Wellington Independent School District trustees met May 12 1997 with re elected President Gary Killian and Vice President Richard Sims and Secretary Jerry Lewis. They hired Jeff Fires for the 1997 98 year and approved the elementary handbook calendar and a bus for the Senior Class Drug Free Party. IOWA test results were strong. grant talks for Panhandle Information Network progress. roof repairs underway after wind damage. junior high activities noted. high school teams excelled with state placings. playoff plans and prom set.
Area districts released the 1996 97 top graduates with Wellington High School naming Amber Devoss valedictorian and Sandie Cantu salutatorian. Sumnerwood Hedley and Hedley High also announced valedictorians and salutatorians with GPAs and family details for each student. Graduation dates are May 23 for Wellington and 8 p.m. at Sumnerwood and Hedley gyms for the others.
