Skyrocket netters competed in Abilene at Abilene Christian University April 23 24. Spillman Williams seeded three reached finals but lost in doubles final 6 3 6 3. Amber Devoss won two matches in girls singles while Ikner and Swearingen exited early. State championships set for May 9 10 in Austin.

Seventy eight students participated in the Clarendon College annual commencement on Friday April 25 in the Sisters Fine Arts Auditorium. The associate degree recipients from Wellington were Ann Allen Suzanne Maxwell and Traci Martin, all connected to local families.

They watched a K 9 demonstration with Max the dog and trainer, toured the fire station with Sparky the mascot, seen an airplane and sat in a pilot seat shared by three pilots. The 1997 annual meeting themed Celebrating 85 Years of Girl Scouting honored Wellington residents with awards including the Celia Fowler Award to Ambrus and Robin Briggs, a Life Membership to Debbie Oliver, and the President's Award for Caprock, Valleyview and Wellington Service Units.

Amber Devoss of Wellington High School received a nonresident tuition scholarship and a residence hall scholarship at Southwestern Oklahoma State University Weatherford OK.
