High on Life theme drives 30th Top of Texas District meeting
The 30th annual Top of Texas District convention of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs met March 23-24 at Harvey Hotel in Amarillo with a big Collingsworth County delegation. The event opened with a banquet, featured a Drug-Free Kids on the Block youth program from Borger Middle School, and included remarks by Vickie Howard, the new assistant U.S. Attorney from Canyon. A reception honored district leaders Lorene Jenkins, Lisa Kuhlman, and outgoing president, with about 100 guests. The business session approved a resolution urging ratings for music and video to curb obscene material, continuing district efforts on substance abuse and teen issues. Awards covered club programs, time management talks, and heritage projects, with Bill Sarparkius praising local causes and Lithuania trip. Installation of the new administration closing the convention highlighted the theme Looking Into the Future.

Gas Cooking Preferred in Modern Kitchens
American Gas Association notes more homeowners choose natural gas ranges for even heat and control. DOE data show annual operating costs for efficient gas ranges are about half those of electric models. New models feature pilotless ignition, energy savings, and options like glass doors, self-cleaning systems, sealed burners, modular designs, and interchangeable grill components.
