Rockets fall in district opener against Memphis Cyclones
The Rockets lost 4-1 to Memphis in Wellington as Gene Pena allowed two hits over a strong pitching performance. Wellington scored their lone run on a Tarver bunt, while 10 runners left on base and 14 strikeouts hindered the rally. Tim Allen urged better hitting and fewer errors. The next game is home against Boys Ranch on April 1.

The Wellington Tennis Teams hosted a 13-team event March 21-22 with rewarding singles and doubles play. J J Swearingen of Wellington finished second in boys singles, Lori Jones won girls singles, and Memphis duos dominated doubles events with Edward Urrutia winning girls doubles and Helton Fowler taking boys doubles. Wellington prepares to travel to Memphis for another tournament March 28-29.

Lady Rockets finish fourth at Bobcat Meet
The Lady Rockets track team placed fourth with 62 points at the Bobcat Meet in Childress running through March 22. Courtney Westmoreland was third in the 3200 meters and led with a third in the 1600. Monique Davis won both the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, while a fourwoman relay team took third in the 400 meters. Cami Scott won the shot put and placed third in discus, with other solid showings across sprints and distance events. The next meet is in Groom on April 5.

Seventh boys tie for fourth at Childress track meet
The seventh grade boys track team tied for fourth with Chillicothe at a March 21 22 meet in Childress, earning 35 points. Santos Garza was sixth in discus at 89 ft 1 in, Cole Cummings third in high jump at 4 ft 8 in, Jacob Ballinger fourth in long jump at 15 ft 7.5 in, and fifth in 800 m with 2 42. Ballinger placed second in 100 m at 12.91 and third in 200 m at 26.65. Relay team Hernandez Pennon Cummings Ballinger finished fourth in 4 41.47. Quanah won with 172 points, Childress 122, Wheeler 85.

At Childress on March 21 22 the seventh grade girls track team finished third in team standings. Felicia Ford led in the 400 meter dash and triple jump with first place and third in other events. Alicia Ward placed in several events including first in the 400 meter dash. Carrie West Beatrice Lopez and Judy Melton formed relay teams second in the 400 meter relay and 200 meter relay, while Bridget Pena topped the shot put and placed high in discus.
