Easter Egg Hunt Set This Sunday in Wellington Park

The Wellington Kiwanis Club will host an Easter Egg Hunt at Ellison Park on Sunday March 26 at 3 p.m. The event is open to children ages one through 12 and features four age groups with two special prize eggs per group. Kiwanis officials will supervise the hunt.

Local candidates file for May 8 Wellington elections

With one day left to file candidates, Wellington voters see activity in city and school board races while Dodson City has no filings. Incumbents in Sumnerwood and Wellington Independent School District seek re election, and hospital board filings close April 11 with three incumbents expected to run. Mayor and council races see two unopposed council candidates and several filings for mayor and school board terms.

Raquel Neeley crowned Miss Irish Rose in Shamrock

Raquel Dalene Neeley, 5 5 and a Wellington High senior, was chosen Miss Irish Rose during Shamrock 42nd St Patrick's Day celebration at Shamrock High School Auditorium. She is a Wellington Lions Club entry and Sweetheart, with prior pageant success in Amarillo Borger and Pampa.

Ambulance rates to rise in Collingsworth April 1 1989

The Collingsworth Volunteer Ambulance Service will raise base charges to 60 dollars and mileage to 1.35 dollars per mile outside city limits effective April 1 1989. President Marshall Peters cites rising costs and weak collections while noting local funding matches and community donations support a new ambulance and ongoing operations.

Wellington's 4th Miss Irish Rose Wins Saturday

Raquel Neeley, the 1989 Miss Irish Rose winner, became the fourth Wellington girl to hold the title during Shamrock's St. Patrick's Day celebration marking the 42nd annual event. Previous winners include Gayle Young in 1955, Gayle Peeples Hamby in 1960, and Vanda Wood Pauwles in 1984, with each now residing in or near their hometowns.

Health fair poster winners announced at Collingsworth County

Winners announced for the Collingsworth County Health Fair poster contest with Blue Ribbons and silver dollars donated by the Extension Homemakers Council. The first ever health fair drew about 580 registrants on March 16 with entries from Sumnerwood and Wellington students across grades one to six.

Wellington first quarter sales tax up 5.61 percent

City of Wellington posted a 5.61 percent rise in first quarter 1989 sales tax compared with 1988, as released March 10 by Comptroller Bob Bullock. March 1989 rose 47 percent from March 1988, with Childress and Donley county towns up about 9 percent and Wheeler county towns up about 17 percent, while Hall county showed a loss.
