Choosing A Nursing Home From Savvy Senior guidance
A reader asks how to find a quality nursing home for a debilitated father and overwhelmed mother. The Savvy Senior advises planning with family, shortlisting facilities near loved ones, researching ombudsman programs and aging offices, and visiting at least three homes, including unscheduled visits, to assess cleanliness dignity staff responsiveness and liveliness versus signs of poor care. It stresses facilities accepting Medicaid and careful observation of care quality during tours.
