Panhandle Narcotics Task Force Dissolves After 31 Years
Collingsworth County Sheriff Rusty Lee says the Panhandle Regional Narcotics Task Force will dissolve after May 31, eliminating a key regional tool in drug enforcement. Amarillo settled a 1999 Tulsa drug sting case for 5 million dollars, with counties facing lawsuits, threatening resource shortages for meth lab cleanup and narcotics operations. The Amarillo Police Department led the task force, formed in the 1970s and expanded in 1988, funded by grants and seizure money from the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division.
