Youth delegates named for Texas Youth Conference
Nine Wellington youths and one Sumnerwood boy were chosen as delegates to the Texas Youth Conference August 17 20 on the University of Texas campus. Cotton Classing Improvement Aimed At USDA Plans
June 15 meeting in Dallas between Rolling Plains Cotton Growers and USDA officials focused on instrument classing of cotton in coming years. USDA will emphasize accuracy of human classers in 1967 and may add classing supervisors. instrument lines planned in Memphis to test devices. Plans also include evaluation at Plains Cotton Cooperative in Lubbock and exchange of ideas to speed instrument development. Machines expected include colorimeter trashmeter length analyzers improved micronaire testers and possible strength and uniformity instruments. More than 4.8 billion cubic feet of natural gas has been stored in Lone Star Gas underground reservoirs for winter. Some fish cannot endure wave action and suffer seasickness after extended wave exposure.

Oil Seed Crops Tested at High Plains
The High Plains Research Foundation conducts an extensive oil seed breeding program to develop ready for mechanized farming. It tests 219 sunflower varieties selected from 612 total, aiming for insect resistant, machine harvest ready lines while noting 30 percent oil and 22 percent protein in the seeds. The sunflower moth poses significant damage to susceptible varieties.

Approximately 200 sesame strains are under observation to develop non shattering varieties for mechanical harvest. Renner 15 yields well under dryland but not irrigation.
