Collingsworth County Commissioners seek applications and resumes to fill the county judge position until the next general election on November 2, 2004. Applications must be received by 5 p.m. Friday, June 25, with submissions to Jackie Johnson, county clerk.
The county tax office will be closed on June 28 29 and 30 to accommodate county and state audits. Staff urge taxpayers to pay tags or taxes before closing and note the office will reopen after the audits.
Scott Grover of Council Grove KS will provide play by play from the announcer booth or horseback at the 4th of July Rodeo in Wellington Fairgrounds. He aims to announce the National Finals Rodeo one day and has previous experience announcing Kansas Open Rodeo Finals.

After the death of County Judge Jim Forrester the clerk's office says the commissioner's court will accept applications to fill the position until the November election. Independent candidates must file by June 30 with a petition and no filing fee. write‑in candidates may file Aug 4 to Sep 3 with either a $750 fee or a petition to waive it. Names of independents appear on the ballot. write‑ins will not. Democratic and Republican nominees will be selected for the November ballot. Candidates must reside in Collingsworth County and follow the stated filing procedures.
Wellington has been chosen to host the 9 and 10 year old baseball All Star Tournament from June 25 to 29 featuring six area teams. Games run at 6 and 8 pm with Wellington’s first on Saturday June 26 at 6 pm. Concessions offer hamburgers and hot dogs and meal tickets are sold to support Wellington Little League. Donations are sought to fund this tournament and next year’s supplies. For contributions call Ashley Long at 447-5001. Additional All Star teams aged 11 and 2, and 13 and 14 will join a separate tournament hosted by Childress on listed dates.
