Centennial wheat harvest nearly complete in county
Farmers recall dire January forecasts but the 1990 Collingsworth crop edge toward the million-dollar mark as Warrick's elevator in the county handles about 300,000 bushels. Wheat prices at noon hovered at 2.85 per bushel while growers rushed to sell or ship to Dreyfuss Inc in Altus and other buyers. Most yields ran around 20 bushels per acre with some reaching 30 to 35. The ideal weather sped a quick harvest and nearly all grain graded No. 1.

Renovations for Computers Approved by WISD Trustees
Wellington Independent School District trustees met in a special session to discuss an eight item agenda and approved two motions. They authorized payment of half a month’s salary to Supt. Tom Mauer for July and approved plans to build a $10,000 computer lab in the old agriculture building at the high school, with half the space for a new computer program and the other half for the existing 20 Macintosh units. The board also reviewed air conditioning and roofing needs for the elementary campus, with a proposed 24 gauge steel roof at $65,000 to $80,000, and noted an $18,000 hail repair payout from insurance. The timing hinges on resolving air conditioning before finalizing the roof project.
