GTE Line Charge Becomes Effective Nationwide rise in local rates
General Telephone will begin charging a $1 monthly subscriber line fee nationwide starting June 1, with business lines already facing a $6 charge since May 1984. The FCC plan shifts costs from long-distance users to local customers, and AT&T plans interstate rate cuts of about 5.6 percent. The change aims to reflect true local network costs and may raise local prices while long-distance rates fall. In other news, farm reports discuss variable wheat test weights, rust, moisture, and harvest delays across Dodson and surrounding areas amid weather concerns.

Home electrical safety tips and insurance advice
Check fuse box and flip breakers yearly to ensure movement. Look for warm switches or buzzing wires and call an electrician for old houses. Do not overlamp with a 100-watt bulb in a 60-watt lamp or use light cords for heavy appliances. If fire occurs, ensure adequate insurance with experts.
