Naval officers linked to Squalus disaster and Bourland family
Classmate of Lieutenant Joe Bourland recalls Lieutenant Garrison who died in the Squalus sinking off the New England coast. Bourland notes Garrison was only an observer on the submarine, while Garrison served on the Sarge returning from Rio de Janeiro. The piece also mentions Ensign Geo Bourland of Quail, a 1938 Annapolis graduate, now aboard the Pensacola in Mare Island dry dock. The essay concludes with a fact about the average automobile containing 15,000 parts.
