In Texas a Health Department study shows appendicitis deaths peak in warm months with about 650 deaths in a year. Delays in seeking medical care and overuse of strong laxatives when abdominal pain strikes are cited as main causes, with many ruptured appendices among the fatalities.
The article explains early appendix removal is simple before gangrene or rupture can occur, noting rupture may happen 16 to 18 hours after pain onset. It advises consulting a physician for persistent abdominal pain to confirm appendicitis and appropriate treatment.
