Trend Reverses Norwood Farmer Experiments with Midland Bermuda
Norwood area farmer Roulain shifts from cotton to stock farming and tests Midland bermuda a drought and cold tolerant grass. The hybrid bermuda, sprigged this spring near Sumnerwood, grows 3 to 4 feet tall under ideal conditions and spreads by roots. With irrigation, it could yield 8 to 10 cattle per acre May through frost, aided by ASCS and Great Plains Conservation programs and SCS guidance. Other area ranchers like Brim Jones Mauldin and Coleman explore bermuda adoption.
