R&R Martial Arts honors Pablo Ortiz with Belt Test graduation
Pablo Ortiz, a Green Belt student at R&R Martial Arts, advanced from Sixth Gup to Fifth Gup after demonstrating the Wan-Hyo pattern of 28 steps and breaking boards. Roy Wright and Robyn Wright led a modest ceremony with instructors and peers congratulating Ortiz on his progress. Belt tests occur monthly as students accumulate training hours toward the next rank.

Wellington senior league girls softball beat the Childress Dodgers 23 to 9 on May 28 1998 and defeated the Childress Twins 28 to 3 on May 30 1998. Twins coach Marilyn Keys led the team with players Deidre Ingram Erin Lemons Nikki Sims Bridget Pena Becky Sanchez Amy Littrell McKenna Sims Amber Moore Cassie Bradham Jaime Strickland Alicia Ward and Kendra Allred. A double header with Quanah is set for Saturday June 6 at 6 p.m. in new uniforms. all are invited to attend.

Shirley Thomas notes Texas Plains Girl Scout Council prepares for summer with Camp Kiwanis opening June 7 and running to July 24. Camp offers sessions in golf canoeing theater and more while funds help provide financial aid to girls needing assistance. The Kiwanis Club aided the camp with a grand opening in 1933 and the camp remains open year round under the council.
