The Collingsworth County Commissioners Court lifted the burn ban on Monday May 8 2006. Residents are advised to contact the Sheriff’s Office before considering any control burn to ensure compliance and safety.
The Collingsworth County Horse Club will hold its first meeting on Monday June 5 2006. A brief parent meeting starts at 6:00 PM in the show barn followed by practice at 6:30 PM. Volunteers are needed and Marcy Sessions can be contacted at 806 447 5745 for details.

The Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Center will host a Breast Cancer Screening Clinic at Collingsworth Hospital in Wellington on June 26, 2006. Senator Robert Duncan defends a sweeping session aimed at equity in public schools and tax reform. He cites increased funding for poorer districts, lower local property taxes, a $2000 teacher pay raise, and a compressed school tax rate while detailing franchise tax reforms to broaden the base and lower the rate.
The fourth annual city-wide garage sales are set for June 3 2006 with a published map at local businesses and the chamber office. The Collingsworth Peanut Festival and County Fair occur September 8 and 9. October 7 brings the Chamber of Commerce Picnic at Fairgrounds Park. New officers will be elected and Lucy Grider leads event coordination. Dues info mailed soon. dues are 100 dollars for businesses and 25 for individuals.
The Wellington Rodeo Association won Rodeo of the Year for 2005 at the Texas Cowboy's Rodeo Association event. About 500 contestants competed over three days and roughly 600 spectators attended each night. The association, formed in 1983, draws competitors from Texas Panhandle Southern Colorado Kansas and West Oklahoma. The 2006 4th of July Rodeo is slated for June 29 30 and July 1 at the Wellington Fair Grounds.
