Collingsworth Chamber adds Gary Brewer to board

Mayor Bill Hatch and Truett Holland were re elected to the Collingsworth Chamber of Commerce board. New member Gary Brewer joins Wellington based business leaders. Hatch and Holland have long run chamber affairs and represented regional interests.

Mrs Kate Smith longtime area nurse dies

Mrs. Kate Smith a Dodson resident for more than 30 years died at Hollis Convalescent Home on Tuesday July 6 at age 78 after two years of failing health. Born October 17 1897 in Phillippi West Virginia she was the daughter of Guy W and Maggie J Mason Baker and a registered nurse for much of her life.

County Centennial Queen Pageant Opens Entries

The Chamber of Commerce sponsors a County Centennial Pageant to choose a Centennial Queen for Collingsworth. Friday August 20 at 8:00 p.m. in Wellington High School auditorium. Entry fee ten dollars funded prizes for winners and youth activities. Contestants 16 to 22, single, county resident. sponsor required. entries due July 31. Pageant co chairmen Mrs Barney Glenn and Mrs Bob McAlister.

Loco Arlie Queen King to Be Named at 1976 Reunion

The 1976 Loco Arlie reunion will elect a queen and king for each community. The event is Sunday August 1 at Burn Handley Community Center with 9:00 a.m. registration and 10:00 coffee. Nominees include Lucille Covey Motsenbocker Mora Powell Della Lawrence for queen and Don Wilks Avel Lowry George West for king. Loco Queen nominees are Mildred Ray Osborn Allene Ferrell Reneau Nell Terry Burch with local king nominees Jack Brown Frank Hall Buddy Gibson. Wellington School Board reviews 1976 77 budget plan

Wellington Independent School District discussed a proposed 685 796 budget for 1976 77 at a July meeting noting receipts of 688 043 and a 96 53 percent current year collection. The board also reviewed elementary school rebuilding and remodeling options with Architects Associates and prepared for a public budget hearing on August 9.

William J. Lee Barbee Dies at 71 in Wellington Area

William J. Lee Barbee, 71, died at Collingsworth General Hospital at 1 10 pm Saturday July 10. A longtime mechanic and welder, he lived in Wellington and had roots in Berni tu Oklahoma and Silgter. He was born March 23 1905.

Four graduating classes of Wellington High School plan individual reunions as part of the Wellington Ex-Students Reunion on Saturday August 14. Class of 1946 marks 30th anniversary with organizers led by Beth Bowen and Bethine Adkins among others. Class of 1951 celebrates silver anniversary with Patsy Harper leading efforts. Class of 1956 prepares its 20th anniversary with John Horton coordinating. Class of 1966 observes 10th anniversary under Carolyn Christian Keller.
