Motel Owner Mike Krutton Dies After Long Illness
Mike Krutton 71, longtime operator of King Kourts in Wellington, died Sunday July 5 at St. Josephs Hospital after years of ill health. Born November 25 1892 in Imroz Turkey, he lived in New York Chicago St. Louis and San Francisco before arriving in Borger in 1939 and later Wellington. He married Dorothy Worley in Borger December 31 1939 and they ran a cafe and apartments before retirement. Funeral held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Kelso Chapel with Rev Chester Harmon. Burial in North Wellington Cemetery. Survived by wife, daughter Christine Brown of Midland, granddaughter Christine, sisters Maria Cano and Kalyopi Samaklis of Imroz Turkey.

Youth Hit by Pickup Injures 9 Year Old
Jesse Charles Hunnicutt nine was treated at St. Joseph's Hospital for bicycle accident injuries after being struck by a pickup driven by Walter Deger of Aberdeen. Sheriff John Rainey said the 10 a.m. collision occurred in front of Junior Davis' food store on Highway 83 as the boy entered the street.

Two Night Run Youth Rodeo Opens Here Friday Evening
The first VFW Youth Rodeo will be held in Wellington this weekend at the rebuilt arena in northeast Wellington. About 200 youths under 18 from eastern Panhandle and southwest Oklahoma may compete, with eliminations Friday at 7 p.m. and finals Saturday at 8 p.m. Events include barrel racing pole bending calf roping steer riding boot race and calf scramble with multiple divisions and trophies for winners.

Crawford Named Principal of Wellington Elementary School
Mrs. Bartlett elected to teach English at Wellington High. Crawford, a Wellington native and educator with degrees from Texas Tech and West Texas State University, will replace retiring Jack Davis as elementary principal. He has NSF grants in math and biology and has attended a Nuclear Science Symposium at UT. He previously taught agriculture at Spring Lake and is married with three children.

Training Course Opens July 13 for Managers and Staff
The Collingsworth Chamber of Commerce partners with the University of Texas Extension division and the Texas Education Agency to offer a four day employee training course from Monday July 13 through Thursday July 16 at Green Belt Electric Co operative Inc. directors room. Mary Frances Bowden will lead sessions on training techniques and program planning with Mack Saied Jr handling local arrangements. Enrollment is available at the chamber of commerce office.

Mrs. Mattie A. Jameson a Dodson area settler and charter member of the Dodson Church of Christ died at Hollis Hospital Sunday July 5 at 12 50 am aged 86 after a hip fracture on March 9 She helped establish the first Wellington Church of Christ in her home between 1906 and 1909 and lived in the Madge and Dodson communities for decades Born Mat tie Abbott in St Jo February 7 1878 she married Charley Hunt and later R S Jameson about 1901 Her death closes a long chapter in local church and community history.

Thomason Advances Toward PhD in Plant Genetics
Ronnie Thomason, son of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Thomason, earned a Master’s in Crop Science at Colorado State University and began work on a doctorate in plant genetics under a National Defense Education Act fellowship. He joined three honor societies and is married to Ann McCarver of Wellington and Hereford. The Thomasons live at 1129 W Mulberry St in Fort Collins.
