Wellington Little League hosts the 9 and 10 year old All Star girls softball tournament on July 5 7 8 9 and 11 with 6 and 8 pm starts on July 5 7 and 8 and 7 pm starts on July 9 and 11 A concession stand offers a $5 ham burger deal homemade ice cream and other goodies Community support is requested.
The Dodson Church of the Nazarene hosts Vacation Bible School starting Monday July 11 and running through July 17. Activities include a parade July 12 at 11 am from the church to downtown, a Friday picnic, a Sunday July 17 program at 10:30 am with balloon launch, and a phone number for rides. Ages 2 to 12. Director Wilma Beanland.
A bake sale will be held Thursday July 7 2005 from 8 am to noon on the west side of the square. Proceeds support local activities at Opp. Center.
Wetland project along Brim Marsh south of Wellington shows rapid wildlife uptake since spring 2005. The dikes host diverse birds frogs and insects as state and government workers helped realize the vision. Local observers report Killdeer behavior and mallard flocks amid blooming Mid-west native Mexican Hats and other flora.
A party of twelve from Sumnerwood left the Texas Panhandle on June 9 for a 17 day educational trip to England France Switzerland and Italy with EF Tours. Leaders include Kim Shreffler Bonita Myers Cheryl McLeod Mary Beth Avery and Nancy Henard. Students include Dustin Ward Amy Henard Ashley Garcia Trent Shreffler Dani Myers Whitney Gulley and Tessa Howard. Highlights feature Queen Elizabeth St Pauls Cathedral Big Ben Notre Dame the Louvre Versailles and the Colosseum among others. Day One saw an overnight transatlantic flight and a nine hour trip with comments about real British tea.
