Time Indefinite Contractors Open Office for Highway 4 Surfacing

Time Indefinite Contractors opened a general office on the north side of the Salt Fork River to supervise Highway 4 surfacing toward the Wheeler County line. The start time is uncertain but site work begins after freezing weather passes. 200 workers daily and 20 trucks planned when concrete pours begin. Office is near Rivercrest Station. crew to hire from eligible pool when work starts.

Municipal Light Plant Concept Examined by Cochran Group

Al L. Cochran and associates announced plans to inspect a municipal light plant in the Muscle Shoals area and consider establishing one to serve the business district of Wellington. They note several municipal plans have been abandoned as towns await TVA power.

Teachers Plan Formation Of Interscholastic League Meeting

County superintendent Logan Cummings has called a Saturday morning meeting at 10:30 in the Wellington high school auditorium. Wellington Sumnerwood and Dodgsonville teachers plus rural county educators will attend to draft plans for the Interscholastic League event this spring.

Funeral Services for Cecil Halley Held in Wellington

Cecil Halley, 25, died from injuries after an auto crash near Lubbock Texas. Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Wellington conducted by Minister Guy N Woods. He had worked on a ranch near Lubbock and died Jan 6 after being hospitalized since Dec 25.

Panhandle Seating Company Opens Wellington Plant

Announcements this week state Panhandle Seating Company opened a division office in Wellington at Amarillo and Seventh Streets in the Old Trout building. Operated by W. C. Jackson, local manager will be C. C. Whitson. The firm specializes in school furniture building and repair.

Plans Complete for Samnarwood Court Tourney

Monday January 11 marks the last date for entering the Sammarwood Basketball Tournament to be held at Samnarwood January 1 and 16. Orwell Wells Appointed Junior Accountant in Washington DC

Orwell Wells was notified of his appointment as junior accountant and ordered to report January 5 at the General Accounting Office in Washington DC. A Wellington High School and University of Texas graduate, he previously worked at Percy Wells Department Store. In 1930 he married Miss Tincille Trawick, who now teaches in Houston and will join him in Washington after the term ends.

Wellington Lodge Names New Officers

Members of the I. O. F. Lodge of Wellington elected officers for the ensuing year at a meeting held Thursday, Dec. 31. Jap Smith was chosen noble grand, M. V. Vandiver vice grand, L. A. Rev. John W. Hawkins announces monthly communion in morning services across the circuit churches with evening services on each church's appointed Sunday. Doneghy Donates $300 to Red Cross

Gulf to Build $3,000 Station at Highway 4 Junction

Workmen began tearing down the Gulf Station at the Highway 4 and Worth Avenue junction across from the compress. Bennie Bridge the local Gulf consignee says a new $3 000 structure of modern design will replace it with construction starting once the site is cleared. The completed station should be among the best in the Panhandle.

Highlights Of 1936 Trace Events Of Past 12 Months

Collingsworth County residents look back on 1936 with pride and concern. The AAA Farm Program ended while farmers worked with the national leader to adopt soil conservation. Roosevelt and Garner won a landslide in 1936 marking a political milestone. The county saw one of its shortest crops yet, but wheat acreage rose. Local firms retooled for better service and value. A Centennial observance drew interest as new highways and paving contracts emerged.

All Parties Must Sign Vouchers To Secure Payments
