Lone Star Gas Co. filed for a rate increase that would raise the typical Wellington residential winter bill about 1.93 dollars and lower summer charges by 0.07. Averages show an eight thousand cubic foot monthly usage would rise from 24.40 to 26.33 in winter with commercial rates also climbing.
Collingsworth County recorded 27435 bales in 1980 cotton harvests based on checks from five gins. The crop, though under half of the 1979 record 69000 bales, exceeded growers and gin managers expectations. Dry weather drove the smaller yield while prices rose above the prior year.

Wyrick transfers lots 6 through 9 in block 116 to Betty Wyrick Pruner.
In Amarillo region, gifted students from rural Texas Panhandle districts participate monthly at West Texas State University. Participants include Wellington students such as Renee Lacy and Toni Isaacs under Region XVI Education Service Center coordination.
