The Collingsworth Chamber of Commerce banquet on Tuesday March 1 will award Outstanding Community Service and Sales and Service prizes to local contributors. Lone Star Files For Rate Change With Modest Winter Rise
Lone Star Gas Company manager MLR Cofer filed for a rate change that would lift the average winter monthly residential gas bill by 3.03 percent, while summer bills would rise about 2.56 dollars. The filing, dated February 17, cites operating costs and pipeline maintenance as reasons, noting the last rate change was March 10, 1986. A ten thousand cubic foot winter bill would move from 52.23 to 53.54 dollars and a 2000 cubic foot summer bill from 12.95 to 15.51 dollars, with savings from gas-cost adjustments passed to customers.

Cinderella Season Ends With Loss In Area Game
The Wellington Rockettes season ended in the Area Championship as defending state champions Morton defeated them 75-54 at Hereford. Morton’s Nedra Johnson, Marla Shields, and Valery Jackson combined for 65 points while Wellington’s Joann Oatley led with 15. The Rockettes finish 20-6, having won District 2 2A and a bi district game over Panhandle, and coach Rick Pinson praised their effort despite the setback.

Local Youth Headed For Stock Show
Eight Collingsworth County youths will exhibit calves and a Sumnerwood plant identification team will compete in the Houston Livestock Show, ending with the show sale Saturday March 6. Extension Agent Don Reeves announced competitors and calf breeds, including Shane Jones of Dodson showing a Maine Anjou steer, son of Steve Kane and Howard Jones, with Marla Keller and her sister D N ae Keller also among exhibitors.
