Sumnerwood High School eight girl Eaglettes won the District 4 B basketball title 54 53 after two overtimes over Quail Bobwhites on February 14. Coach Kenneth Martin Dale led the first girls district crown. They previously defeated Lakeview 60 39 in the tournament opener.

Ground saving rain revitalizes Collingsworth county wheat
Heavy rain across Collingsworth on February 10 and 11 brought 1 to 2 inches, reviving wheat believed dead. Extension agent Don Reeves says the moisture avoids runoff, aids grazing, and improves plowing prep as about 2,000 acres are in wheat this year.

John R. Henard Jr. was named the 1977 Texas Outstanding Resident Conservation Farmer Rancher at the 25th Texas Farm and Ranch Credit School for Commercial Bankers at Texas A&M University. Bloodmobile Seeks 118 Units During Wellington Visit
The Red Cross bloodmobile comes to Burn Handley Community Center in Wellington on Monday February 21 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. The drive aims to supply 118 units to support Collingsworth General Hospital and regional blood needs. Coordinated by Mrs. Ernest Harwell with Charles Floyd as county Red Cross chairman, doctors and nurses will be on site.

Wellington Band Skips UIL Concert Contest Decision
Wellington High School band will not participate in the UIL concert contest due to director Garry Bowen’s illness. Region 1 UIL Music committee excused the band after confirming justified inability to practice. Superintendent E W Clement was notified via letter from Dr Easton Wail, Dumas.
