Gene Manzer to Display Stamp Book at Dienier Fair

An unusual stamp display will be shown in the Hobby Booth at the Dienier Fair on March 9. Eight year old Gene Manzer will exhibit a stamp book containing stamps from foreign countries and rare U.S. issues. Gene has built an amateur collection with stamps and gramps, and plans to share his growing collection.

Memphis Clock Reaches Century Mark in Texas

A wooden clock more than a hundred years old still keeps time. Owned by J. B. Knox, six miles southeast of Memphis Texas, it was bought for 60 cents over 40 years ago at his grandfather’s sale. The machine’s wooden wheels are wild cherry with one brass wheel, and it has only stopped once in 40 years when Knox repaired a broken wheel.

Byrd Polar Group Heads Home From Antarctic Expedition

The second Byrd Antarctic expedition, led by Admiral Richard E. Byrd, sails from Little America aboard the Bear of Oakland bound for Discovery Inlet and New Zealand. Lieut. Robert A. J. English commands the Bear. Commander H. J. Gjertsen leads the flagship. Equipment losses include two tractors and snowmobiles.

New York: Frank Geiges, a sandwich man, recovered $42,000 in bonds found in the snow and was rewarded $100 cash plus a $70 monthly job at the brokerage house whose securities he found. His fortunes rose after this discovery as he had been earning $1 a day while roaming the streets.

Boy Dies After Whiskey At Party At Farm Home

Six year old boy consumed whiskey at a party at his farm home 22 miles west of Mere and suffered convulsions 48 hours later. District Attorney Elmer J. Linccaln said the mother was present. Sheriff Henry Brooks led a wide search for the accused man as Dr Pe As Mc Castion noted the liquor affected the child’s heart.
