Wellington band members shine at District I Solo/Ensemble Contest
Five Wellington High School musicians earned Division II and Division I ratings at the District I Solo/Ensemble Contest held February 5 at West Texas State University in Canyon. A flute trio Reagan Linville Ashley Spillman Shannon White earned an Excellent rating, Dennis Cudd earned superior for Corelli two movements, Vanessa McDaniels earned superior for Bach two movements, with accompaniment by Judy Cudd and Ben Karnes respectively. Band director Bill Dyer praised hours of preparation and dedication from the students and noted the school and community supported their achievements.

Four Collingsworth 4-H Steer Exhibitors Shine in Fort Worth
Nine Collingsworth County 4-H members showed steers at the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show in Fort Worth January 30 to February 4. Amanda Wood won third in Medium Weight Angus, Jody Wood seventh in Medium Lightweight Crossbred, and Rusty Strickland sixth in Lightweight Polled Hereford. The group also earned rights to represent Wellington High School at the Texas State Solo Ensemble Contest in Austin June 13.

Wellington clinches District 2-2A title with an 18-1 district mark over the past two seasons and will host a bi district contest Friday that determines the next round. Opponent from District 1-2A will be the second place team, with the location and time to be announced this weekend.

Collingsworth Chamber Plans Banquet With Notable Honors
The Collingsworth Chamber of Commerce annual banquet on Thursday Feb 16 at Burn Handley Community Center will honor six individuals and feature John Chandler of Amarillo as guest speaker. Dollie Mae Wilson receives a Seven Who Care award in a wide area program coordinated with the chamber. Awards will be announced in Amarillo April 22, with KVII TV sponsoring. Mrs Wilson, a former teacher and hospital auxiliary president, is active in library literacy, church work, and community health projects. John Chandler, Amarillo business owner and motivational speaker, has led extensive community development efforts and civic roles. Bill Hatch will MC, Kerry Hookstras invocations, Ben Karnes piano, with officers and directors to be installed. The banquet is hosted by Miss Piggie’s and showcases local sponsorships and complex civic recognition.
