Collingsworth 4-H to Compete at Houston Livestock Show
Collingsworth County 4 H members join 4 H and FFA exhibitors from across Texas for livestock show ring contests at the Houston Livestock Show February 16 through March 3 at Astrohall. Local entries include Larrie Black Paula Gonzales Joe Hughes Shane Jones Micah Tarver Toby Tarver Cory Watts Alison Wood Amanda Wood Jody Wood and Lucas Hartman in beef heifers. The junior show features market steers swine sheep poultry beef and dairy animals with top entries eligible for auctions. total 1990 junior show auction proceeds exceeded 2.7 million dollars. Proceeds fund scholarships and research across Texas with 30 projects funded and more than 9 000 volunteers aiding the event. The show runs from February 14 horse show, through February 16 livestock events, with the rodeo starting February 17 and ending March 3.

Lane named in 12 count indictment
Claude Bob Lane, Childress County sheriff for six years, faces a 12 count federal indictment in Amarillo. He is charged with obstructing justice and conspiring to possess with intent to distribute less than 50 kilograms of marijuana. The counts allege acts to further the conspiracy including tráfico activities with a shotgun during a drug crime and distribution near a public elementary school in Childress.

Fort Worth Show Sevens 4-H Steer Winners
Seven Collingsworth County 4 H members showed steers at the Southwestern Exposition and Livestock Show in Fort Worth from January 28 to February 2. Amanda Wood placed sixth with a heavyweight angus, Cory Watts sixth with a middleweight European Cross, and Krista Johnston fifth with a light-weight European Cross. Over 1200 steers entered the show. helpers included Joe Wood, Danny Watts, Mark Fourmentin, Richard Fourmentin, Jimmy Morgan, Earl Patterson, and Don Reeves, County Extension Agent.

WTU seeks fuel factor raise with PUC in Texas
West Texas Utilities Company files with the Public Utility Commission to reconcile historical fuel costs and raise fixed fuel factors to reflect higher fuel prices. The change, not to hit bills until late 1991 or early 1992, would raise the average residential bill about 1.44 dollars monthly. The filing cites $3,050,015 under recovered fuel costs through December 1990 and notes a need for annual or periodic fuel reconciliations. WTU plans to update the under recovery balance at case end and optionally refund or surcharge over twelve months.
